Vancouver, B.C. – The evening event plans were announced today for the Movement Skis World Backcountry Freeride Jam – the biggest backcountry get together in the world – held in Whistler B.C. this April 20th-22nd, 2007. The opening evening, Thursday April 19th, begins with The North Face VIP pre race party showing the latest footage from the gang at Teton Gravity Research, the premier action sports entertainment company. This is a special showing of TGR’s best ski & snowboard footage, highlighting the best that the backcountry has to offer. After the films, stick around for the party and Canadian Avalanche Center Fundraiser. On Friday April 20th the Escape Route and Dynafit present “First Descents – a collection of skiing firsts”. This will be a very unique film night that will feature some classic ski films never before seen in North America that record significant “firsts” throughout the last 100 years. The program begins with Max et sa Belle Mere - 1911 Max Lindner, believed to be the first ski film ever made. Vintage footage from the dawn of skiing and ski filmmaking. Shot in Chamonix, this slapstick comedy follows the attempts of a young honeymoon couple to enjoy winter sports under the eye of the bride's mother, which means she put everything at peril on the slopes. Next up is I Ski, You Ski, Love Ski - Popeye cartoon – 1936. Believed to be the first animated film of skiing produced. Our spinach loving hero takes his sweetheart Olive Oil on a mountain adventure, while Bruno does his best to outwit (and out ski) Popeye to kidnap Olive Oil. The next film, Timeless - 2001 – Swiss. It is a spectacular film shot in the French Alps featuring skier Dominique Perret - A mix of historical and modern extreme skiing footage showing many of the classic extreme lines with a great sound track and a sense of ironic deja vue - brilliant. Gasherbrum II – 2006 - German– the first ski ascent and descent of the famous 8000m peak. A remarkable film showing Benedict Bohm and Sebastian Haag completing two firsts, the first ski ascent AND the first ski Descent of an 8000m peak. Benedict Bohm will be in attendance. World Premier of Le ali al piedi – 2006 – Italian - the latest film by Fulvio Mariani as he and a group of friends ski the most remote corners of the world, taking many back country routes never before skied in Iran, Pakistan, Jordon. Etc. The film stars the legendary John Faulkener. Spectacular footage showing some of the world’s remote, seldom skied ranges. Spend the night dancing to the tunes of a local DJ and support the Alpine Club of Canada via the raffle of great outdoor products. The Cinnamon Bear Bar (at The Whistler Hilton in Whistler Village) is hosting both events. For tickets to Friday’s event, drop by The Escape Route located in Whistler Village. Much beer, wine, good laughs….don’t miss it. For more on the Movement Skis World Backcountry Freeride Jam please visit www.wbfj.ca or contact Chris Denny at Denny, ink. @ 307.690.0579.
