Feb 24- 26, 2011 AIARE Level I Avalanche Course, Mt. Katahdin, Maine Instructor: Jon Tierney, IFMGA Licensed Mountain Guide, Owner of Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School This course will take place at Mt. Katahdin's South and North basin, where you will have a chance to see a variety of snow pack and avalanche conditions in Baxter State Park. Price includes stay at the bunkhouse, shuttle in and out. Yes, avalanches happen in New England and each year a number of backcountry enthusiasts are injured or killed in New England from avalanches. They are the leading cause of winter mountaineering accidents on Katahdin. Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School offers the well respected AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) courses in New England.
