Beacon, shovel, probe? Check. Med kit, repair kit, snow-safety kit? Check. Pound of salami? You betcha. Kurt Kincel of Paragon Guides in Vail, Colorado knows the ins and outs of packing a bc ski pack, and here’s what he carries inside his guide kit. For a look at what Paragon Guides recommends for a client pack (which serves as a good OB/BC kit), pick up the February issue of Backcountry.

Note: Kurt carries the beacon on his body, not in his pack. Also, the silver backdrop is a tarp that he carries as an emergency shelter, to haul gear or to build a rescue sled.
