Backcountry Snowsports Alliances Names Heath Mackay Executive Director
Boulder, Colorado; October 1, 2006 Backcountry Snowsports Alliance, a Colorado based non-profit, has named Heath Mackay the new Executive Director.
Mr. Mackay, who had been the Projects Director for Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, will be in charge of the Backcountry Snowsports Alliance’s efforts to create, protect and preserve areas for quiet, non-motorized winter recreation in the state of Colorado. Heath will also oversee the BSA Vail Pass Ambassador Program and Backcountry Skills Seminars, as well as spearhead initiatives to increase the influence of non-motorized groups on decisions made by land management agencies.
“I found his vision for BSA’s future fresh and his thinking unconfined. Imbued with passion for Colorado’s backcountry, Heath brings to his new position invaluable experience”, noted Tom Gordon, President of Backcountry Snowsports Alliance. “His 5 years with Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado provided lessons working with land managers, harnessing the energy of volunteers and executing the intentions of a well-meaning board of directors.”
An avid backcountry skier, Mr. Mackay first started telemark skiing in 1992 near Cameron Pass, west of Fort Collins, Colorado. Passionate about the backcountry ski experience, Heath can be found on most winter days looking for steep, deep lines in his home state of Colorado.
Heath earned a B.A. in Natural Resources Recreation and Tourism from Colorado State University and lives in Denver, Colorado.
The Backcountry Snowsports Alliance represents winter backcountry recreationists by advocating the creation, preservation, and management of non-motorized areas on public lands. We work to preserve backcountry areas for quiet human-powered use, promote winter backcountry safety and ethics, and cooperatively resolve conflicts among backcountry users.
